Acer Aspire AS1410-2039 11.6-Inch Black Laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium)
Reviews for Acer Aspire AS1410-2039 11.6-Inch Black Laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium)
Fast netbook, well balanced and great price for the money
I got the 1.3GHz Celeron CULV version, with the following specs:
- 1.3GHz single core Celeron CULV processor
- 11.6" 1366x768 screen, LED backlit
- Built-in Intel 4500MHD graphics accelerator
- 2GB RAM
- 250GB SATA hard drive (it's a Western Digital Scorpio Blue drive)
- Wifi 802.11b/g/n
- Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
I had a previous model Acer Aspire One 8.9", and really needed more screen space. I wanted a netbook, without an Atom processor (the Atom is way too slow at least for my tastes), and that had a 1366x768 screen. This netbook had all the specs I wanted.
Thinking that 1.3GHz would be underpowered, I played with it for almost an hour in the store before actually buying it. It was really impressive that it actually performed faster than any other 1.6GHz Atom netbook I compared it to. I can play youtube videos full screen, although when switching to HD mode, it stuttered a bit.
Windows 7 on this machine is really a pleasure to use. For the minimal tasks it's used for (Skype, Web Browsing, Office 2007, Youtube/Hulu videos) it has very, very acceptable performance. I think it is due to the fast hard drive it included, a 5400 rpm Western Digital Scorpio Blue (WD2500BEVT), which are known to be great laptop drives.
The screen is very good, bright and easy on the eyes. I don't think a resolution less than 1366x768 would be acceptable for any netbook. Great improvement in terms of available desktop space compared to my smaller 8.9" netbook.
In terms of battery life, upon doing the tasks I previously mentioned, with mostly web browsing and with the screen set at full brightness, it can do around 5 hours of use. Compared to my Aspire One's 1 and a half hours of battery life, this is a massive improvement.
Very satisfied with Acer netbooks, they always deliver a great user experience, along with a great price. — Feh HKK
I paid $399 for a computer that didn't turn on...
I had searched around for a net book with a decent speed and memory. I chose the Acer Aspire AS1410-2497 for 399 (amazon has raised the price for some reason) over the Gateway EC1433U with similar specs. I received the laptop and it looked great. I followed all the set up procedures but when I turned it on nothing happened. Blank screen and no hard drive activity. Apparently Amazon takes it on good faith from the distributer that the laptop functions correctly. I rated the product as a 2 because I was happy with the portability and size of the screen... nothing more obviously because the thing wouldn't turn on. Amazon couldn't replace it because it wasn't in stock at the time so I had to send it out to Acer for repairs. This was negotiated after 2 hours talking to customer service at both Amazon and Acer. Its been over a month since I first placed the order and I am still waiting for Acer to return the netbook. So not only did Amazon send me a laptop that didn't turn on but now they have jacked up the price another hundred bucks. Buyers beware.
I Love This Netbook/Notebook!
I have had this netbook for about a month and love it.
I started out looking for a 10.1" netbook and had some models in mind, but couldn't decide. So I decided one Saturday to go to several stores and see them in person. I then saw the Aspire 1410 and compared the features. There is no comparison, a netbook or a full notebook in a small package, this is a no brainer I was sold.
As a sideline I was originally considering an Asus, but after reading all the reviews about bad customer service, I decided that would not be a good idea. Where as, the reviews on Acer customer service were very positive. Fortunately, I have not had to test this.
Great for the price
This is a great options for those who want a small laptop but don't necessarily want to be restricted by a netbook. This Acer has an 11.6 inch HD display that looks amazing. Pictures look pristine and full of detail with this monitor display. The Acer is extremely portable since it is super light.
It has an Intel Celeron processor and long battery life. The keyboard took some getting used too, even though my previous laptop was a 12 inch Dell Inspiron. When I want to hit 'enter' I kept hitting the '\' key. My big gripe with this laptop is the mouse/touch pad. Although the multiple touch feature is helpful, the touch pad is 1. not as sensitive, or 2. as big as I would like it to be. They could have made the touch pad a bit bigger, at least expanding it sideways. As it is, I find it a bit uncomfortable.
This is a great option for a laptop and you just can't beat the price. Get this instead of a netbook.
I just simply love this computer.
This is a very special computer. I love everything about it. My Amazon experience has been absolutely wonderful with this computer purchase. The computer has a full size keyboard and the full version of Windows 7. Absolutely fabulous. Can be upgrated to 4 GB Memory. Amazon offers accessories when you purchase the computer - a bag and the additional memory. I did that and am very happy that I did. There is nothing that I don't like about the computer. It is more than a Netbook. But smaller than a full size laptop. So light and easy to transfer from home to work etc. It is one of the best purchases I have ever made. Price is great also.
Acer Aspire AS1410-2497
Very nice netbook. The keyboard is a little different than my desktop computer but still easy to use. I would recommend this netbook.
has everything to get it done
It has the form factor adv like a netbook without the limitations. comes with Win7 home premium. has HDMI out, VGA out.
Powerful little dynamo
I bought this about a month ago. I wanted something small to take on trips. It's fantastic, great resolution, good screen size, great keyboard. I can't say a single bad thing about it! — misara
I love this notebook!
It's almost as small as the netbook but has a much more comfortable keyboard and screen size. I really enjoy the portability without losing the programs I like to use. I am pleased with Windows 7 as compared to Vista. It makes the Toshiba notebook I had feel like a desktop. The price is great and I'm very happy with my purchase.
excellent buy
Windows 7 64-bit with 11 inch display and ergonomic keyboard, weighting a lot less than a heavy notebook and much better than the tiny netbooks ? integrated webcam, very slim, 2G and 250GB HD ??, Wi-fi (draft-N very fast) and 6-hour battery ?
You would say it would be impossible to find for less than USD 500. This is just an excellent buy.
There is NOT any other better alternative than this as a cost-benefit choice.
A really great alternative to a netbook
I bought this for my wife and she LOVES it. I played with it a little while when I was setting it up for her (moved it to LINUX), and I'm actually thinking about getting another one for myself. :-)
I'm very glad I didn't go the true 'netbook' route and got this instead. This has much better performance than any netbook I've ever tried. Everything works very well and it really feels like good quality.
great netbook
Started right up with no problems. Brilliant screen with excellent resolution, easy to read, easy on the eyes. Battery life exceeds 6 hours. Very comfortable big key keyboard. Very good wireless Internet connectivity. 3 USB ports and chip reader provide versatility. In use about 6 weeks.
Combination of screen size, memory, disk size and processor speed with Windows 7 Home premium make this an excellent value.
Only complaint is terrible documentation both printed and online.
Big Bang for the Buck
Husband always was nervous about sharing the laptop with the children. Now we have an affordable, easy to use unit that our teens and elementary age child can share. It is mostly used for internet tv viewing, facebook, games, and a little bit of homework. Battery life is great. — Happy Mom

I would always much rather upload a video response than type out a long text one. The vid is about 8 minutes long and hopefully worth your time. It at least gives you a live look at the computer itself and some specs on it.
Unfortunately when I tried to upload to Amazon the file size was 11mb over the 100mb limit. I've already re-recorded once and instead of killing more of my day, I've decided to post a link to youtube where I uploaded it instead.

For a quick-look, here are my list of pros and cons I covered in the video:
Cons:
Trackpad: Can be hard to identify from the palm-rest area of the case. Trackpad is smooth, case is textured in a "brushed" aluminum sort of way.
Speakers: Are all the way on the bottom on the case. Muffles the sound horribly when sitting on your lap.
Webcam: Is just a 1.3MB resolution. Makes for grainy chatting and ghost-trails with movement.
PROS: (Far outweigh the cons you'll notice)
Size/Weight Ratio: 11.6" OLED screen is compact, but substantially bigger than 10" netbooks. Weighs in at just 3.5 lbs.
Screen: OLED backlit screen is so sharp and intense I have to take the brightness down to 1/3 just to tolerate it.
Keyboard: It's full-sized as opposed to the 10" netbook keyboards being dwarfed due to the screen size.
Battery: Mine is still conditioning, but I believe I can pull over 6 hours out of this baby. It's a 6-cell, netbooks are 3-cell.
Keypad: While it's a con, it's also a pro due to it's multi-touch capabilities. Most functional is the enlarge/reduce motion
Webcam: Also a con, it's fully capable of skyping with the quality of MOST full-sized laptops. MOST PC laptops still have a 1.3mp
Performance: Celeron processor destroys all others, especially a netbooks atom. 2GB RAM, 250GB Hard Drive, Wireless, B, G, N, Windows 7 Home Premium. Netbooks are only available with Windows 7 Starter. Which is a much weaker version requiring upgrades.
Conclusion: This baby will do most everything you want a full-sized laptop to do and more, while maintaining the size/weight/functionality of today's tiny netbooks. I've only had it for two weeks, but I'm convinced this suckers solid construction and usability are Acer Aspire AS1410-2039 11.6-Inch Black Laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium)built to last and be carried for a while. — Eric Ebbinghaus
Great computer for travel
I bought this netbook for travel. It is bigger than most netbooks but small enough to travel with. I bought a bag that doubles as a purse so I only have one bag to carry. The keyboard is great and the screen is a little bigger and easier to read. This product is well worth what I paid for it and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a smaller, lighter computer without loosing quality.
Love It!
I received my Acer for Christmas. I love it. I wanted something smaller and lighter weight than our 17" HP laptop. The size and weight is perfect. It is much faster than the HP and it really holds a charge well. The keyboard is user friendly and with a cordless mouse it is excellent. I would definitely recommend this to a friend. The blue color is perfect also. Much easier all around than the larger laptop.I use it way more than I thought I would. Glad it came with Windows 7 Home Premium too. Excellent value for the price.
great computer
bought this computer after last year getting the acer aspire atom processor computer(gave that to my inlaws) works very fast, good graphics, good speed and the computer is just right in size...like the keyboard also!full size in a smaller computer.
highly recommended,great value!

Unacceptable Service Support
My computer screen was defective right out of the box, full of flicker and black lines. After two days of dealing with Acer customer support, I only get the option of delivering the unit to a Fedex shipper and waitting 10 days for a repaired unit. Considering that this is a brand new unit, this is not acceptable customer service. Buyers beware and shame on Acer! I also complained to a supervisor but got no other alternative, "this is our warranty policy" If you don't like it, return it to where you purchased it. For this reason I do not recommend that you purchase Acer products.
Great little netbook
Great netbook. Very fast and responsive with better resolution than the 10.2 inch models. Perfectly coupled with Windows 7 to give great 64bit performance.

great machine
I bought this as a gift for my nephew for college work and he loves it, I would definitely buy one for myself — garibay
Very good netbook
I bought this netbook to take it to school with me. It is very light weight and fits in my bag perfectly. It has 2mb memory and runs really fast, enough for basic school use(Office, internet, etc). Definitely highly recommend this for light use.
Outstanding Laptop
I bought it for my wife at Christmas, she loves it - no complaints. She had a Dell Desktop, hasn't used it since.
Notebook Review
I bought this notebook for my son who is a college student. He is very happy with its performance and size. He is able to take it to class easily.
Very satisfied
Very satisfied with product. Only wish Windows 7 came with some user help or quick tips assistence
Great "little" notebook
So what is this, a netbook or a notebook? It doesn't really matter what you call it. It's slightly too big to fit the netbook category, but not much. It also packs more punch than a netbook, and comes with Windows 7 Home Premium, whereas netbooks are shipped with the Starter Edition. That doesn't mean it can play the latest 3D games, but it's good enough to use on a daily basis. Open too many programs at once, and you may have some slight delays. But for this price, I can't complain.
Small computer works fine
The product has performed as advertised. My job frequently takes me on the road for a few days at a time, and this product is my regular computer during those trips.
Great little notebook!
Great notebook, fast, boots up in like 30 seconds, battery lasts like 4 hours not 6 even at battery save mode, very light and easy for travelling, works like a champ with Windows 7, installed MS Office 2007 and works beautifully, handles well in multitasking, WIFI card ok, HDMI works ok and keyboard size is great!!!
I can list some cons but it should not be enough to not recommend this netbook...
Cons:
-Bluetooth button that does not work...why the hassle? Why did they put the BT button when it doesn't have BT?
-No DVD or CD writer
-Sound, you literally have to stick your ears to the speakers to listen to it :(
-Sometimes not good for youtube on HD mode
-Lasts forever to fully charge the battery
Conclusion:
If you travel as much as I do, use the netbook for basics such as skype, web surfing, MS Office, MSN, Youtube, Facebook, etc. You are good to go...
If you need a higher demanding laptop, don't buy...
Acer 1410 makes great choice for college students
I recently bought this Acer 1410-2497 to replace my Aspire 5735Z because it was a monster, too big. I thought the smaller 1410 would perform slower, but I'm surprised that it runs almost as good. It is great for browsing the 'net, running MS Office 2007, and I can even play Legend of Zelda N64 ROM on the Project64 program smoothly. Adobe CS4 will run but not very smoothly. The webcam is good but don't do any sudden or swift movements. The included 6-cell battery lasts about 4-5 hours, but if you want more I suggest you buy the 8-cell battery Amazon sells. Lacks a number pad but makes up for it through the Fn button and certain keys.
Pros:
* Decently sized screen
* Long enough battery life
* Decent performance (I could play Legend of Zelda smoothly)
* Thin, portable, lightweight
* Fast Wi-Fi
* Very sharp display (makes my old laptop's screen look blurry)
* Not a lot of crapware
* Nice deal for a college student
Cons:
* Lid is a fingerprint magnet, requires frequent cleaning
* Wish it would come with one 2GB RAM stick instead of two 1GB RAM sticks so it would be cheaper to upgrade the memory to 4GB
Acer 11.6 Inch Notebook
It has a great keyboard. I think it is regular size. You can really punch out some work with it. Unlike HP and some others, Acer Support has all of the drivers so you can easily downgrade to XP, as I have done. Matter of fact I am dual booting XP and LINUX Mint. I replaced the Hard Drive, which has 7 Home Premium, with a 80GB from 3BTech. You have to change the Bios so that a IDE hard drive will work. Not hard. Good display, although the shinny display can get some reflections. Has great HDMI output. Plugs right into a HD TV. One cable for great video and sound. Decent web-cam. WiFi works good. I am running XP/SP3. I don't have a problem with 7, it's just that I have some old XP photo-editing software, old but serviceable and cheap to operate printers, and a scanner that Cannon doesn't have 7 drivers for. Everything works with XP. LINUX Mint 8 has all the drivers already. Easier to install than XP, although it was hard figuring out how to get XP to be default boot so it boots first. But I did. I use Mint for web surfing (NO VIRUSES) Google Earth and Chrome browser will run on Mint. The files on The XP partition are accessible when using Mint. Really nice and light and compact. I have a ASUS eee Netbook also. It is a little too small..... This thing is just right!
Acer Aspire AS1410-2954
Very compact and fast. The LH shift key didn't work very well at first but seems to have freed itself up.
Great little netbook!
I have had this netbook for about a month. It's the perfect size for me. The 10" netbooks are just a little too small so I opted for the 11.6". This is a great size as you can take it anywhere but it's not heavy or bulky like other laptops. The screen is bright and clear. It doesn't get hot on your lap. The only disappointment is the keyboard. The shift and enter key on the right is a little bit of a stretch. I am a very fast typist but on this keyboard I constantly make typo's since the keys are flat and your fingers tend to slide off at times and hit an incorrect key. I type all day at work without a problem and then come home to this keyboard and make many mistakes. If you use this constantly I guess you would get used to it. I mostly use it to surf the web, check my email and comparison shop online. I would still recommend it. It has Windows 7 and lots of other goodies for a good price.
Perfection.
This little netbook is a rockstar. The full-size keyboard allows fast typing (no oddly-placed shift keys or reversal of the delete and backspace), the multi-touch control is intuitive (especially for iPod touch/iPad users), and the screen is beautiful. Plenty of hard-drive space, runs like a racehorse, weighs nearly nothing, more than sufficient battery life, and Windows 7 64-bit is pretty badass. Love it.
Good Netbook
My wife has been using this computer for about a month and is very happy with it.
Its one of the few netbooks with 2gb of ram. That was a requirement when my wife
asked for a netbook.Even with the bigger screen, its half the weight of my 15"
notebook.
Acer 1410-2039
I have had my Acer 1410-2039 for 2 weeks and I am pleased with both my purchase and Amazon transaction. I will agree with all of the previous reviews that this is by far a much better computer option then the ultra small netbooks that are offered for only minimaly less. However, it is still a small laptop that takes time to get used to. CPU speed, 2 GB memory, 250 GB HD, screen resolution, Windows 7 Premium, battery life, weight etc etc. are all as stated and perform better then expected. However, touch pad feels awkward due to the small case size. It's difficult to find that right hand / finger position simply because of the smaller configuration. Web cam works well but can be a little bit fuzzy depending on lighting conditions. Comes with very minimal information other then a quick start guide. Also as mentioned in most reviews the ultra gloss black finish is prone to fingerprints. Overall very satisfied with Acer quality and performance.
A few notes on this very good laptop
1. To play Youtube flash HD, do this: Update Intel 4500MHD graphic driver using manual mode(download ZIP package), update Adobe flash player to 10.1 - After this, it plays EVERY thing fine(even in 1080p!)
2. Google 1810tray, download the utility. Schedule a startup/logon task, this will stop cooling fan when it is not neccessary
3. hdparm.exe comes with 1810tray, you should also schedule a startup/logon task as hdparm.exe -B 254 hda, this will stop WD HDD aggressive power management(It does NOTHING other than generating clicking noise - Windows 7 won't let HDD unload header). If you want to aggressively save power, configure it using power option, Windows can spin down HDD.
4. Power circuit has leakage when it is powered off, resulting 5% loss per day, if this bothers you, you should not buy this
5. This is perfect choice for consumer, but bad for vendor, too powerful to cripple notebook, too cheap to cripple netbook - This will be discontinued
6. It appears that DDR2-800 supports CL-tRCD-tRP as 6-6-6 only. I tried two different type DDR2-800 5-5-5 2GB memories, both didn't pass memory test, could be my memory modules though(I am trying spdtool to change my module timing to verify if this is north bridge limitation)
GREAT PURCHASE
Once again Acer and Amazon website provides a great product, love the size of the screen and the keypad. And it has the full version of Windows 7, not just the starter win 7 so makes for a great little netbook for all your needs. The website thru Amazon in which I ordered it was terrific, speedy delivery and would order from them again...all in all a great product, so if your needing a netbook that is between a netbook size and a reg. laptop, this is the one.....don't hesitate to purchase, you won't be disappointed. — Okie Grandma

Edit: I used SPDTOOL-0.63 to change my 5-5-5 2GB SODIMM to 6-6-6, it ran through memtest-x86 two times, Windows standard memory test 2 times and extend test 1 time (Total 6 hours) without any problem, no random carsh for 1 day so far. So if you have 5-5-5 2GB SODIMM and random crash, it could be limitation of laptop
I CANNOT recommend this "mini-notebook" enough
I was looking at the Macbooks, which are 1500, because I need something with some power. But in order for the screen to be big enough for some pro audio stuff that I wanted to be able to see, I needed the 15 or 17.
But those are ridiculously expensive and a 17" monitor basically negates the purpose of HAVING a "lap" top.
So this is what I did, and I can only recommend it. I ended up getting a 21.5" imac desktop for my power (which I got for 1050 with a student discount) and I got this netbook for right around 400.
I LOVE IT!
I have all the portability AND I have the massive big mac screen for when I'm at home.
This is basically a perfect laptop, as far as I'm concerned, especially with Windows 7 (which I'm almost convinced beats Mac Snow Leopard for basic functionality and flexibility) and Rocketdock (if you haven't used this, get it. It's a doc for windows and, once customized away from the annoying presets you get when you download it and refreshed with newer icons, it IS better than the mac dock.)
In short, get this laptop. You won't regret it. There's not a lot of EXTRA screen space, but there's all you need. This is what laptops are supposed to be.
I made the mistake of putting some graphics software on there right after I got it which was supposed to change the entire look of the windows interface, and that software in turn messed up the computer. But it was super easy and quick to restore the whole thing because there's a hidden partition in the computer which can basically copy an image of what the hard drive looked like when it was first shipped onto the primary hard drive. You can also simply restore windows. So even if you get some buggy software, "reformatting" and "reinstalling windows" can be done in about 30 minutes TOTAL. It doesn't get better than that.
My review: buy this for yourself and thank me!
(And get the rocketdock and taskbar eliminator, both of which you can search for on google. they dramatically enhance the windows 7 experience.)
Great bang for the buck.
I was initially skeptical of the Celeron 743 as I am multi-core spoiled to say the least but the 743 has impressed me. It happily multi-tasks and rarely seems sluggish. It definitely feels faster in every respect then my old dual core AMD HP DV6000 that it replaced (the Acer 1410 does score about 100 points higher than the DV6000 in the Passmark test). As a software developer, I typically stress systems pretty well, though not excessively. This system handles everything I use, including Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server 2008, and among other things, perfectly. I am pleasantly surprised how responsive the Acer 1410 is even with a single core processor.
I would recommend this laptop as a desktop supplement or for those who don't game or edit videos. For everyday use (plus a little extra here and there), this little guy is plenty fast and requires no upgrades to be really useful. Like most people in this price category, I considered a Netbook but couldn't bring myself to use the low resolution, 1GB of RAM and slow processor those systems provide. Unless you need long battery life, upgrade to the Acer 1410 for only a little bit more. It's well worth it.
Pros:
- Win 7 Home Premium x64
- Good CPU performance for price
- Plenty of RAM (no need to upgrade out of the box like netbooks)
- HD video playback, HDMI, High Resolution
- Little bloatware compared to my previous laptop purchases
- Thin and light, sufficient battery life
- Nice trackpad and keyboard for small size
- Boots quickly (around a minute)
- Runs cool.
Cons:
- Requires 4500 driver and Flash updates to play HD videos. Only really a con if you're not tech savvy.
- Recharging is slow (3-4 hours to fully recharge).
Perfect little laptop
This laptop, if you can call it that, is very small and light, but the screen is suprisingly big. When i started using it, i did not notice the difference between it and my previous 15 inch laptop's screen. The battery life is also amazing, you can definitally get 6 hours out of it, though you may need to dim the screen some since it is very bright at full brightness and uses lots of power. The wireless works well. The lack of a cd drive is no real problem, these days you can download almost anything, and if you must get it off a cd or dvd, you can just transferrover and .iso file and use a virtual drive. Overall this is a good mobile laptop if you are looking for something better than a netbook, with similar mobility.
The only problem i have had is that when i use pandora, the cpu usage skyrockets to 100%, i dont know why, since that seems a bit much for just using [...] but its nothing big.
the netbook that delivers!
For a portable travel companion, or as a 2nd PC around the house, the Acer Aspire 1410 fits the bill perfectly. The screen is bright and smooth, battery fits flush with the shell, and this netbook runs so cool it won't cook your lap. The only downside is the keyboard. The keys are generously sized, but the 3rd row (zxcv...) is mis-aligned from the top, giving it more right offset than found on most keyboards. As a result, typing letters on the third row often result in striking the key to the left of the one intended. This is not as easy to adjust to since I constantly switch between work PC, home desktop and the little netbook. Other than that, this is a perfect pc for the road. It fits easily in my briefcase, and is so light I hardly notice carrying it. I have yet to test the battery life, but I'm happy to finally get my hands on one after searching a number of web and local stores who have all ran out of stock. — civicrule
Super choice, especially for the price. Netbook Plus!
I was planning to by a 10" netbook, primarily for travel. I was really attracted to the small size and did not plan to use this for major computing. All my research indicated that even the best netbook needed to be upgraded for really workable power. Further research discovered this Acer Aspire. No upgrades were needed and no trade-offs necessary. The built in power is 25% more than netbooks, storage was already at 250g, yet the size difference from the 10" netbooks is minimal. The Aspire was even thinner than the 10" Toshiba I was considering. The battery life is less, but I find that a good trade-off for the power capability. Another feature I particularly wanted was to use the netbook to stream from Netflix to my widescreen TV. The Acer has a built in HDMI port. Using a HDMI cord, I streamed easily from Netflix with a sharp picture and continuity. Just plug & play. I am a very fast typist and have had to adjust some to the close spacing of the keyboard and the flat keys, but assume I would find this with any less than a full-sized keyboard and the Aspire keyboard is bigger than the 10" netbooks.. I have Vista on my home PC and have been impressed with the speed of start-up with the Windows 7 in the Aspire. I haven't used any other features in 7 yet, so no reports on that. The included Windows Works software meets all my requirements for this secondary pc. As others have mentioned, if fingerprints on the case bother you, you will find that the nice blue finish is a definite fingerprint magnet. You may want to buy basic black and purchase a skin. I plan to buy a skin in the future. But don't sweat the small stuff. I was also happy to make this purchase through Amazon, with their excellent customer service. There was a problem with my order which delayed shipment. Once I contacted Amazon customer service it was quickly resolved and they also upgraded my shipping as a courtesy. I am most pleased with this purchase.
My New Laptop
My New Laptop
I am not a geek who lives his life for a new computer but I have a collection of computers that includes one Windows 98 Desktop, a Windows XP Desktop and Laptop. A Vista powered laptop and and a Desktop and now a Windows 7 Laptop and Desktop. It helps I maintain two residences. I bought the laptop from Amazon because of its price and thought it would be a good transition instrument from XP and Vista to Windows 7. It was!! The price was right and it enabled me to follow my transition to the new program in an orderly manner. It was several days before I discovered it did not have a drive for a DVD or CD and I would have to use a USB port to input data. This was an incomvenience but did not divert my satisfaction. I would recommend this product for a transition to Windows 7, a Traveling Laptop, and a regular all around computer.
the best netbook ever had
had this computer for 3 months now. I had previous bad experience with the intel atom based computers, this processor is far faster. i upgraded it into 4gb ram. all the software works well and the multitasking is ok, you do not need another computer with it. the battery life is 5 hours. it is only con is the low sound
Works Great
The reviews of this laptop were very positive. I was looking for a smaller than traditional laptop for recording meeting minutes--something easy to carry around, but not a netbook--too small. When it arrived some keys were intermittent. I suspected the keyboard ribbon cable connection was loose. A Google search yielded a YouTube tutorial of how to change the keyboard. I didn't want to open up a brand new computer, but the fellow said it was quick & easy, just a few clips to release around the board (but very small). Do this at your own risk. Most people would just want to ship it back, and try another. But it was just as he said. The connector was a bit tricky to reassemble, but in a few minutes the keyboard worked fine. I've had no other problems. The processor is pretty fast for word processing and spreadsheets. It's not bad either for photo viewing. The LCD is very sharp and bright. I got a USB outboard DVD drive--no space in the machine, too thin. Battery life 6 hours, super. It think this laptop is a great value. — Pocket Mountain Video
Almost perfect travel companion (and what's Netbook supposed to be)
I chose this model based on multiple positive feedbacks and after coming to the conclusion that Netbook concept of being reduced Notebook has been taken too far by Atom-based solutions and experience reduction simply isn't worth the price.
This laptop, in my opinion, represents what Netbook intended to be in the first place - compact inexpensive Notebook for basic most common tasks: browsing internet, editing documents and watching video. And it does it exactly as expected not only spec-wise but mostly from user experience point of view.
Pros: although not as compact as 9-10" Netbooks, it's still almost twice smaller and lighter than regular 15" Notebook. Running Home version of Windows 7 (not Starter), applications are fast as in Notebook and multiple windows is not a problem (unlike Netbook). 1080i video from my camcorder has no lag (unlike Netbook) and looks crisp and large enough to enjoy both, movies and internet reading, without leaning forward. The keyboard not only looks nice but also spacious enough and responsive to fast typing. 3 USB ports, LAN, WiFi, Multi-card slot, VGA-out and bonus HDMI-out makes it capable connecting to almost any media you may need when traveling with ability to show your footage on big-screen TV or Monitor. All software works out-of-the-box.
Cons: my first experience with reflective display in the vehicle was terrible - you can not see a thing - big issue for traveling which requires external solution. Lack of Bluetooth may be a problem for people using wireless headphones, mouse and synchronizing cellular phones, but I prefer wire where distance is not an issue. Anyway, inexpensive external dongle can easily resolve this (thanks to multiple USB ports) as easy as removing annoying software solves notifications which attacks you every time you turn machine on.
Despite display problem (which is a general problem of most modern machines), I think this is a perfect travel companion for the price with nothing really to complain and almost no experience reduction (except certain obvious size limitations) comparing to regular Notebooks. It's what Netbook supposed to be.
