A College Student's Viewpoint
I've had a MSI Wind U123 with a 9-cell battery for about a year now.
I UPGRADED THE RAM to 2GB. Voided my warranty, oh well.
I Installed windows 7 professional.
Here is my experiences:
It's very light and I just throw it in my backpack like a book.
Everyone comments that its so small and cute.
I tell them it has up to 6~8 hours of battery life. (They are amazed.)
I surf the web, I can do work on it if I need to. (Even such as heavy programs like MATLAB, Photoshop, etc.) Sometimes its a bit slow.
I mostly used it for email, doing on-line homework, and programming. It works well.
Screen size is an ANNOYANCE. I put windows task bar on auto hide... I wish all my applications would have "auto hide" the filemenu, etc.
If you have a 3-4 year old laptop, it's about as powerful as those.
In terms of how much of a difference RAM made, I'm sure it made it boot up a bit faster as well as Photoshop run smoother, but its risky.
Today, I must suggest to you this:
Get a smart phone.
Buy a laptop.
But a Netbook... its "All Day Computing" — Mech E.
